Disaster 2: Hurricane

In the following post I will be going through F.A.Q's (Frequently Asked Questions) and ways on how to survive a Hurricane.  Hurricanes are very deadly tropical storms with winds exceeding 70 mph (miles per hour).  Can you imagine getting hit or even walking in 70+mph winds, that's just crazy.  So in order to survive or at least have a higher chance of surviving a hurricane follow my guide.

Below you will find a list of items that will be of great assistance in surviving.

  • An electricity generator - This is is a really important tool for survival. When a hurricane hits, it will hit hard. You might or might not lose power to your home and that's when the electricity generator will come in handy.
  • Radio - A radio is important because it will let you know what is happening in the outside world and will let you know when it is safe to come back out.
  • Flashlight - When the hurricane hits power lines, you will lose power to your home. Having a flashlight gives you a source of light. Light will become really helpful when it gets dark or you are trying to find something.
  •  Batteries - In the case your generator fails or you do not have one, having batteries will save your life. Batteries will most likely be able to power up anything that you will need at the time of a hurricane. Batteries will also be able to power your flashlight and or radio. P.S Make sure you get a variety of batteries, so you don't later find out your flashlight needs AAA batteries but all you have is AA.
  • Food - You never know how long or how much damage a hurricane will cause, so you got to  be prepared for anything. Having food will help you stay nourished and will provide you with energy. Having canned food or non perishable food is the best as it will last long and be there in the time of need.
Now that you know what  you will need to survive, I will teach you how to survive.

F.A.Q

What is a hurricane?
A hurricane is a very deadly and intense "Tropical Cyclone" or storm.  Usually exceeding 70 mph winds.   Forms only around oceanic areas.

Fun Fact:  Hurricane Katrina was the most disastrous hurricane to date, causing $81,000,000,000 USD
(United States Dollars) in damages.

Where do hurricanes form?

Hurricanes form over regions with a lot of water surrounding the area. They form using the earths natural rotation and a usual temperature of 80°F.

What should I do when a hurricane alert is announced?

When you see that a hurricane is announced for your area, 1st thing you want to do is to try and evacuate the area.  Alternatively if you can not evacuate, the 1st thing you want to do is stay calm.  Secondly you want to make sure you have the necessary tools to survive (Check list above).  Then you wanna make sure that you board up the windows.  The reason for this is that when a hurricane comes, it will hit hard and blow out any windows in its path.  So if you do not want a face full of glass and blood board them up for your safety.
