Disaster 8: Heat Waves

Today I will be talking about heatwaves. Heatwaves are when the weather around the area is extremely hot and it also may come with intense humidity. Depending on where you are located, heatwaves will have
different effects on you. Heatwaves are bad mostly in rural areas because they can destroy entire farms and
their crops. In other non-rural area heataves are also devestating because it can cause power outages in entire cities due to the increase in A/C (air conditioner) use. Hopefully once you are done reading my post
you will know how to survive a heatwave.

  • Drink plenty of fluids: You will want to stay hydrated. You do not want to pass out due to heat exhaustion. Drink water and juices but do no drink soda or other carbonated beverages, they will just dehydrate you faster.
  • Do not use too much energy: You do not want to be using too many appliances because not only will this heat up your home but it will also cause a strain on the power source and a blackout would be imminent.
  • Air circulation: You will want a constant air flow of fresh air. A good idea would be using a fan to circulate the air conditioning, if one is being used.
  • Close all the shades: You do not want the sun coming in your house and making it even hotter.

Hopefully these tips will help you survive a heatwave. Remember this is not a step by step guide on how to
survive but tips and suggestions on what you should do to maximize your potential of surviving. A good tip
that I did not include in this post, would be using the sun to your potential. You can do laundry and instead of
wasting energy using a dryer you can hang your cloths outside and let them air dry a.k.a (also known as) Sun
Dry. Thank you for all my followers, leave me comments I would appreciate it.
