Disaster 8: Heat Waves

Today I will be talking about heatwaves. Heatwaves are when the weather around the area is extremely hot and it also may come with intense humidity. Depending on where you are located, heatwaves will have
different effects on you. Heatwaves are bad mostly in rural areas because they can destroy entire farms and
their crops. In other non-rural area heataves are also devestating because it can cause power outages in entire cities due to the increase in A/C (air conditioner) use. Hopefully once you are done reading my post
you will know how to survive a heatwave.

  • Drink plenty of fluids: You will want to stay hydrated. You do not want to pass out due to heat exhaustion. Drink water and juices but do no drink soda or other carbonated beverages, they will just dehydrate you faster.
  • Do not use too much energy: You do not want to be using too many appliances because not only will this heat up your home but it will also cause a strain on the power source and a blackout would be imminent.
  • Air circulation: You will want a constant air flow of fresh air. A good idea would be using a fan to circulate the air conditioning, if one is being used.
  • Close all the shades: You do not want the sun coming in your house and making it even hotter.

Hopefully these tips will help you survive a heatwave. Remember this is not a step by step guide on how to
survive but tips and suggestions on what you should do to maximize your potential of surviving. A good tip
that I did not include in this post, would be using the sun to your potential. You can do laundry and instead of
wasting energy using a dryer you can hang your cloths outside and let them air dry a.k.a (also known as) Sun
Dry. Thank you for all my followers, leave me comments I would appreciate it.

Disaster 7: Blizzards

Today I will be going over an area specific disaster, Blizzards. Blizzards happen in mountainous regions and in the northeast, but happen can happen in other places, it is uncommon though. Here is how you can prepare for this:
  • Have a radio/internet service: You will need to be able to keep in contact with news stations and be able to receive weather reports, so that you will have enough time to prepare for the up coming storm.
  • Have a food supply ready: You never know how long the blizzard will last, so keep canned foods and non-perishable foods in your home. Having anywhere from a weeks to a months supply of food would be recommended.
  • Close and board everything up: When the storm comes it will hit hard and it will be very cold. Blizzards have the potential of freezing your water supplies and pipes. You will want to make sure that your house is also insulated, to be able to stay warm. Closing the door, windows and everything else will stop any snow from coming in insuring the heat stays inside.
What is a blizzard?
A blizzard is when strong winds happen that are usually 35mph(Miles per hour) or more. Blizzards usually have snow aswell, but they do no need to have it to be considered a blizzard. Sometimes the blizzards strong winds just blow the snow from the ground causing low visibility.

Hopefully you will now be able to be prepared for a blizzard and survive. One important thing to remember is that during any disaster you will want to stay calmed. Being tense and worried will do nothing good for you and will just hinder you more. Until next week, BYE.

Disaster 6: Preparations

Today I will be having a special blog post about how to prepare for any disaster. There are many types of disasters but many have similar ways of avoiding danger. The following things are needed in order to be prepared:
    • Planks of wood: To board up any windows, door or anything else. Also can be used as a weapon. Helpful against zombie hordes and hurricanes.
    • Water: Water is needed at all times. A human needs water to survive. Humans can survive without food for weeks, but going without water for even just one day and they could already be in desperate situations.
    • Survival Kit: Put all types of first aid  and things such as flashlights, batteries, tape etc. Everything that is needed in an emergency that you think you might need. Make sure to keep everything up to date and that nothing has past expiration times.
Always keep a survival plan prepared, so that you will  know what to do when the time comes. The plan should be kept in a common place that is also next to your other survival tools. A good thing to do is to check your area and see what types of disasters happen around there. Then you will be able to know exactly what you will be needing to survive, whether it be a violent storm or a zombie invasion. Join me next week to see what type of disaster we will be surviving then.

Disaster 5: Tsunami

Hey how are you readers today, let me know what you think of my post. Today I will explain how you can survive a deadly Tsunami. Tsunami's are very deadly and can kill hundreds of people in one wave. Hopefully you will never have to face one, but if you ever do it is a good thing you read t he "How to survive" blog.

What is a tsunami?

A tsunami  is a lot of tidal waves that come one after another usually due to an underwater disturbance or usually resulting after an earthquake. Most of the damage a tsunami causes usually happens on the coast line.

How should I prepare?

You need to prepare in advance. In order to prepare you need to know if your area is a risk of getting a tsunami first. Once you know that you need to follow some guidelines.
  1. Make a survival plan. A survival plan should be prepared before hand to be of proper use. When  making one you should consider many things such as your family, your home, your money etc.
  2. Make a safety kit. In this kit you should have essential items for living like food, water, first aid kit etc. Be sure its kept in a common and easy place to get so it can be gotten at any time.

  • Listen and pay attention to warnings. Either it be a natural or government warning. If a siren goes off alerting a tsunami make sure to run for your life, because that will be your only warning. Sometimes there is no warning, so that's when you look for natural warnings. Natural warnings are usually pigeons flying away by the million(Slight exaggeration) and earthquakes if by your a coastline. Earthquakes can start tsunamis easily.
  • Give other people the information of an upcoming tsunami once you have heard the warning. Others may not have been fortunate enough to hear the warning and by you telling them you are potentially saving their lives.
  • Leave all belongings once a tsunami strikes. You will only gain more time to stay alive and once the tsunami has ended you can just pillage the stores for anything you want.
  • Head to high ground so that the tsunami wont hit or impact you less. If you do not have enough time to head to high ground climb a tree as a last resort.(Only do this as a last resort.)
Hopefully you will survive after you have read my post. Leave me comments regarding if this was helpful.

Disaster 4: Droughts

Welcome, today I will be explaining ways on how to survive a drought. Droughts can occur anywhere,
varying from region to region. Droughts are dangerous to a certain degree and if one is not prepared to face
one it can be even more devastating to that individual.

WHAT IS A DROUGHT?

A drought is when a region has a shortage of water and most activities involving water cannot be done. A
drought usually hurts a farm owner more then a normal citizen as the wont have sufficient  water to let the
animals drink or to water plants.

How should I prepare?

The only real way to be prepared for a drought is to buy rain barrels or just by getting any canister that can
hold water and try to divert rainfall to collect water prior to a drought. It is a good idea having spare water for
any emergency that might come up. You can also use the land to your advantage and try to tap into an
underground water or maybe even dig a well so that you can have fresh water.

What should be done once a drought occurs?

Many things should be done and depending on your moral values, a drought can become an easy way of becoming rich. Once a drought occurs there will be less water for all even animals, so a quick way of making money and saving the herd (rationing water) of animals you have you can sell some of your animals, make money and best of all save water, a key element. By having saved water for months before the drought can be the way you become rich. During the drought people will run out of water quickly and will be supplied with  less and less water till its all gone, by having water you can make a monopoly over the water business and sell it what ever price is convenient for you as it will be in very high demand. Once you become rich you will be able to buy any luxurious drink you want and hopefully you will outlive the drought, now that you are rich.

Disaster 3: Earthquake

Welcome back to my survival guide, today I will be going through how to survive an
earthquake. Like usual I will be going through F.A.Q's (Frequently Asked Questions)
and ways on how to survive an Earthquake. Earthquakes are one of earths most
destructive disasters. Also earthquakes are hard to predict so they are that more deadly
when they strike.

You can stay alive by following the F.A.Q below according to any situation may be in.

  1. Where can Earthquakes occur?
Earthquakes happen mostly by where tectonics plate meet. Even though Earthquakes
happen mostly around there they can happen mostly anywhere.

  1.   What should I do when I feel an Earthquake?*
*Depending where you are currently located, follow directions.
  • Inside a house/building - First thing that should be done is make sure you grab onto a solid object or get on the floor, this is to insure your safety. Secondly, you will want to stay away from windows/falling objects as they can break and hurt or cut you. Also avoid standing under a doorway, this in no way will save you. Another thing that should is by using your hands you can cover and protect your head, to you do not want any trauma from falling objects. After everything has stopped moving you want to make sure you do not move for at least a min or so as an earthquakes aftershock can be very devastating. If nothing happens after a min or so, proceed to evacuate your house with caution and go to a safe place. Tip: Make plans with your family as to where to meet up after an earthquake.  Finally you will just want to go inspect your house to make sure that nothing is wrong, such as gas leaks, fires or electrical damage.
  • Outdoors –  First thing you do when you feel an earthquake is to stay still. Make sure that no buildings are around as an earthquake can damage its structure and it might fall. Stay from things that can fall ex. Buildings, lamp post, power lines etc. Then you want to make sure that you find a safe place to stay while the earthquake will not to have much affect on you. High places such as a hill are good because it keeps you away from falling debris. Once you have found a safe place to be at, stay put and do not mot because earthquakes can be felt over 20 miles from where they originally started. Once everything has settled you want to wait a min or so to make sure everything is OK, after this you have successfully survived an earthquake.

  1. Where should I take shelter during an earthquake?
You will want to take shelter outside and stay away from that can collapse. Just stay
outdoors would be the best option here, no shelter is really needed.

      4. What is a Richter scale?

A Richter scale measures how big or severe an earthquake will be. Here is a Richter scale that shows the different magnitudes.

Disaster 2: Hurricane

In the following post I will be going through F.A.Q's (Frequently Asked Questions) and ways on how to survive a Hurricane.  Hurricanes are very deadly tropical storms with winds exceeding 70 mph (miles per hour).  Can you imagine getting hit or even walking in 70+mph winds, that's just crazy.  So in order to survive or at least have a higher chance of surviving a hurricane follow my guide.

Below you will find a list of items that will be of great assistance in surviving.

  • An electricity generator - This is is a really important tool for survival. When a hurricane hits, it will hit hard. You might or might not lose power to your home and that's when the electricity generator will come in handy.
  • Radio - A radio is important because it will let you know what is happening in the outside world and will let you know when it is safe to come back out.
  • Flashlight - When the hurricane hits power lines, you will lose power to your home. Having a flashlight gives you a source of light. Light will become really helpful when it gets dark or you are trying to find something.
  •  Batteries - In the case your generator fails or you do not have one, having batteries will save your life. Batteries will most likely be able to power up anything that you will need at the time of a hurricane. Batteries will also be able to power your flashlight and or radio. P.S Make sure you get a variety of batteries, so you don't later find out your flashlight needs AAA batteries but all you have is AA.
  • Food - You never know how long or how much damage a hurricane will cause, so you got to  be prepared for anything. Having food will help you stay nourished and will provide you with energy. Having canned food or non perishable food is the best as it will last long and be there in the time of need.
Now that you know what  you will need to survive, I will teach you how to survive.

F.A.Q

What is a hurricane?
A hurricane is a very deadly and intense "Tropical Cyclone" or storm.  Usually exceeding 70 mph winds.   Forms only around oceanic areas.

Fun Fact:  Hurricane Katrina was the most disastrous hurricane to date, causing $81,000,000,000 USD
(United States Dollars) in damages.

Where do hurricanes form?

Hurricanes form over regions with a lot of water surrounding the area. They form using the earths natural rotation and a usual temperature of 80°F.

What should I do when a hurricane alert is announced?

When you see that a hurricane is announced for your area, 1st thing you want to do is to try and evacuate the area.  Alternatively if you can not evacuate, the 1st thing you want to do is stay calm.  Secondly you want to make sure you have the necessary tools to survive (Check list above).  Then you wanna make sure that you board up the windows.  The reason for this is that when a hurricane comes, it will hit hard and blow out any windows in its path.  So if you do not want a face full of glass and blood board them up for your safety.

    Disaster 1: Zombie Infection

In the following post I will be going through F.A.Q's (Frequently Asked Questions) and ways on how to survive a zombie infection, if one were to ever happen. You never know, its better to be safe then dead or is it undead? Oh well. Below you will find a list of items that will be of great assistance in surviving.

    • Weapons - Anything that can be used to kill the zombie menace. Ex. Bats, knifes, guns, golf clubs etc.
    • Shelter - A place to stay at is very vital. An environment that is familiar to someone can be a good way to stay safe why still feeling comfortable and knowing how to get around if anything were to happen.
    • Food - Food is an essential item to staying alive. If you have an empty fridge and no beer when a zombie infection goes global is do the following.
    1. Get armed up. You want to be ready for anything.
    2. Drive to the nearest supermarket. Don't pick up anybody off the road. Anybody can be infected at this point and you are just increasing your chances of getting infected by exposing yourself to others.
    3. Stop by the the nearest supermarket. Gather as much food needed for a whole family and then get more. If anybody tries anything just shoot them, you do not got time for shenanigans.
Once you have gathered enough food you will need to conserve it. You will need to ration it to make sure you do not have to make another trip and get bit in the face while doing so. You can then continue staying alive by following the F.A.Q below according to any situation may be in.

      1. What is the first thing I should do, once the infection goes global?

Once the infection goes global, its all about you and only you. Other people will only slow you down. People travel faster by themselves and you attract less attention if you are alone. Once you know you are alone, TURN AROUND QUICKLY!! you never know when a zombie will pop out so watch your back Then you want to board all of your windows and doors with any type of wood (I recommend 2x4 wood planks), you do not want any zombies coming in and biting you. Finally, make sure that you have a t.v. or radio so that you can stay aware of what is happening in the outside world. You do not want to be locked up in your house for 8 months and later find out the infection died off a week after starting.

      1. What weapons are the best choice to use?

Any weapon is good. Guns are a powerful and a very effective way of taking out a zombie. Even though a gun is very useful, a knife or blade will do just as good. Both have their ups and downs. A gun has to be reloaded and this could cost you your life if you are not aware of your surroundings. A knife on the other hand does not have to be reloaded but when used you have to approach the zombies, leaving you open to an attack. I would just suggest both so that you are always prepared for any situation.

      1. What is the best place to take shelter in?

Your house. Its safe and your in a familiar environment. Your house would be the best place because you are aware of where everything is. Also you may already have many useful items and utensils needed for survival. If you have been following this guide, all your windows and doors should be boarded up further adding to how safe your home is.

      1. What should be done to anybody that has been bitten?
Anybody who is bitten is eventually going to become consumed by the virus and will attack you. The humane thing to do is kill your friend/ loved ones before symptoms start setting in. If they were in your shoes, they would gladly do the same for you in the same situation.

      1. What precautions should be taken?
      1. Always wear a face mask until you know that the virus is not airborne, it’s better to be safe then sorry.
      2. Before coming into contact with anybody, make sure to check for symptoms of contamination. Symptoms include such things as spasms, seizures, blurred and unrecognizable
speech and an unquenchable thirst for HUMAN!!
      3. Always be armed, you don’t want to be caught by a horde of zombies and not have anything to fight back or defend yourself with.
      4. Don’t let feelings get in between killing someone and you. If a friend or loved one is infected do not hesitate to kill them, the longer you wait the higher the chance of you getting infected rises.

Now that you have read the Zombie survival guide, try to see if you can survive a zombie infection. (Click Below)
